All the ground work is dug out to the correct depth.
For hard standing compacted aggregate stone chippings is essential as this helps to stabilise the existing ground and allows for drainage from the surrounding areas. On top of this we then lay a screeded full bed of mortar, enriched with a SBR additive made by Sika, that makes the mortar stick to non porous surfaces like slate, limestone, Indian slate.
Each individual slab is also coated with a diluted mixture of SBR, vastly increasing the grab ratio of the mortar mix to adhesion long term to each individual slab.
Once layed, the patio area is allowed to set before we apply Romex.
A cleaver two part resin joint sealer that sets so hard once its gone off is as hard as the patio its self, with a the added benefits that it allows rain water to pass straight through it without affecting the paved area.
